Existence: あります (non-living) vs います (living). Pattern: [Place] に [Thing] が あります/います. Direction words (うえ/した/まえ/うしろ/みぎ/ひだり/となり/ちかく) plug in as [Ref] の [Dir] に. Like/dislike uses が (NOT を): 〜が すき/きらい. と = 'and' (nouns) OR 'with' (companionship). Duration (さんじかん) takes no particle.
